Tae Kwon Do is a Korean Martial Art whose origins can be traced back over 2000 years. It specializes in striking an opponent with your feet, and is recognized as having the most dynamic kicks of any martial art. Tae Kwon Do's focus as a martial art centers around three main concepts. It is a sport, science, and art. Tae Kwon Do is the fastest growing martial art in the world and is an Olympic sport. It's tournament rules emphasize striking your opponent with precision, speed, and power. The science of Tae Kwon Do can best be seen through its techniques. These techniques have been refined over the years to derive the most speed and power from each technique. As an art form Tae Kwon Do is beautiful to watch. An adept student flows gracefully from one technique to another. These techniques strung together properly resemble a dance of unprecedented grace, beauty, and power. Tae Kwon Do is not just a physical art. It places as much emphasis on your development as a person as it does on developing your body. Tae Kwon Do emphasizes two main points in its development of you as a person. In Tae Kwon Do your development as a person revolves around discipline and respect. It teaches you that with a properly orientated mind and spirit your body can accomplish anything. Discipline and respect are required to advance from one belt to another. A student is not allowed to progress from one belt rank to another unless the instructor feels that the student has grown as much as a person as they have in their technique. Tae Kwon Do can be practiced by anyone of any age. Because of the balance it emphasizes between both physical and personal development it will help you reach your goals no matter what they are.
